What is really neat is that you can create zip or DMG files automatically, and it will even password protect them for you, allowing an additional level of security.ĭid you know OSX keeps a database of all the files you download, even once you've cleared your download history? This can be useful and this segment gives you the commands to access, capture and delete this hidden list. It will handle single files, multiple files and even folders. FileChute works by sending files to your normal DropBox account, and creating a public link for you to send via email, all in one simple process. Revisiting an old favourite updated with DropBox support allowing you to create and send large files securely via drag and drop. Wished it had access to a shared folder without committing to it! I suppose I could just manually turn off syncing for that folder - but its a pain.A mac montage this week, covering three separate topics. Where it sucks is none team members sending us shared folders in that have lots of crap we dont need! cos it files up my laptop which is bursting! ( especially when lazy/less savvy clients request an mp4 of their latest blockbuster. Now I just dropbox and create a link - altho I miss the feature of password protection sometimes. and all seem to want you to hit the resume button sometimes. I used several FTP progs - fetch cyberduck - transmit. The *greatest* point of drop box is that it never seems to fail in uploads. they work on projects remotely and it just appears on my drive which is great! ie I put common sound library on there and if I make new stuff then we all have it - and if they make some "keepers" then I get them too. and they just upgraded it for free to 100gig. I paid for the 50 gig which compares well to the now defunct mobileme. else they have to buy space too - as other peoples shared folders eat into your space! so now all our computers have a linked folder. I gave the crew access to my dropbox - ie everyone logs in as me. hopefully by next tuesday when he wants me to "do it" he would have figured this out. I tried explaining the situation to him but he hasn't bothered answering. all of which are downloading to all my linked computers. He just resent the link to his company share folder which has literally 5 projects in it - none of my business. So, don't be sadistically indolent, fiendishly torpid just do the right thing!įile chute sounds great! downloading now!Ĭlient hasnt responded to my request just to send just a link to the project shared folder. (giving someone access to the entire folder which may or may not contain the file, and making them search through all the files in order to find your mysteriously named craptastic file) It's just as easy to send the actual link. That's just laziness tinged with a little sadism. There is no need for the frustration described by the OP. And FileChute is indeed a great solution. don't disparage DropBox if you haven't used it in the past couple months. It's very easy to create a QuicKeys shortcut for this so that you have a link in one or two clicks. Then just paste the file name, and you're done. If you memorize that number, you can type links without ever having to click on anything, and if you're fast, you can type it in less time than it takes to access any folder. That's the part with your unique identification number in it. Once you make a few links in DropBox, you realize that the first part of the link is always the same. And one that's easier to use, in fact.įileChute still has the edge, because it not only puts your file into DropBox's Public folder, but generates the link, which you can drag into an email, or from which you can Control-Click and generate an email with the link already there. It came online shortly before MobileMe ended, offering people an actual alternative to the doomed Apple service. The web-link option has been available for a couple months, now. With that option I don't know why anyone would send someone access to their entire DropBox folder when they can just as easily send a link to the actual file. You hold down the Control Key to access that option (and others) while you click on the file in the DropBox Public folder. FileChute indeed makes DropBox faster, but I'm sensing that some people may not realize that DropBox now generates a weblink automatically.
